Lissy Loushay’s Poetry Slam Returns — Last Friday of Every Month at the Community Hub

There’s something special about a room full of voices, stories, and shared laughter — and that’s exactly what you’ll find at Lissy Loushay’s Poetry Slam, held on the last Friday of every month at the MI Care Community Hub.

Starting at 12.30pm, this relaxed, intergenerational gathering invites everyone to take part: seasoned writers, first‑time readers, curious listeners, and anyone who simply enjoys the magic of spoken word.

Entry is by gold coin donation, helping support MI Care’s community programs for seniors on Magnetic Island.

A Welcoming Space for Creativity and Connection

Lissy brings her trademark warmth, humour, and gentle encouragement to each session, creating a space where people feel comfortable sharing their words — whether it’s a poem, a memory, a short story, or something scribbled on the back of a shopping list. There’s no pressure, no judgement, and no expectation. Just community, creativity, and connection.

And of course, the Poetry Slam remains proudly baby‑friendly, with little ones often adding their own charm to the afternoon.

Why Poetry? Because It Brings Us Together

The Poetry Slam has quickly become one of MI Care’s most loved monthly events. It’s a chance to:

• Hear stories from across the island

• Celebrate local voices

• Share a cuppa and a laugh

• Connect across generations

• Enjoy a creative break in the middle of the day

Whether you read or simply listen, you’ll leave feeling lighter, inspired, and part of something bigger.
